When in Queenstown........bungee!

Okay, so don't panic Mum, I am not that daft. Plus going up to the bungee place and then videoing Adam throw himself over the edge was enough to make me feel sick!

But we had woken up early (again) and headed out to take a jet boat up the Dart River. It was AWESOME!

Cliff (I couldn't bring myself to call him anything but "mate"!), our driver, said as I was getting on that the best place was at the front. So that is exactly where I sat! Thank goodness for the heated hand rails, a) to stop me from falling out when he did the 360 degree spins, and b) to keep my fingers from getting frost bite! We zoomed up the rivers, and it was such fun. Again the scenery was amazing. Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, Wolverine, and the Milka chocolate advert (you would think the Swiss had their own mountains?!) were all filmed in the valley. In fact it acted as Isengard! But all of the views were epic, so it was easy to see why the locations were chosen.

The river beds are all shale, so shift constantly and as because the water can be really low Cliff has to really pay attention to where we go in case we beached ourselves! Literally everywhere you looked could have been a movie backdrop.

A quick jaunt through the forest revealed Gandalf himself, complete with Nike trainers!

I felt that I should use my free afternoon to explore the adrenalin junkie capital if the world! Unfortunately I was unable to do what I wanted due to the weather, so watched Adam do his bungee jump instead. I must admit part of me was quite pleased because I was so tired. With all if these trips there is so much travel, so much to see and so little time that there always comes a point when you feel like you are undertaking an endurance test! That is usually at the point that you get free time. So I had time up the top of the gondola to sit in the sun and enjoy the views....

Then it was time to shop! Bizarrely Queenstown is full of souvenir shops, merino wool shops, hiking gear shops and randomly a Louis Vuitton!

I appear to have become a bit of a social event organiser, well dinner organiser anyway. Yesterday it was David's birthday, so we had champagne after the jet boat and then 11 of us went out for dinner. I had found a really nice Italian restaurant, called "Sasso's", which just happens to be the name of a rather good restaurant in Harrogate, so I just hoped they wouldn't let me down! It was all rather yummy, phew!

  1. Did they have to tip Gandalf to hang around trying to look like Gandalf for the tourists? Rather like the look of the hot springs tho. No leeches hanging around there like in the Poring Hot Springs in Borneo? the Mother xx
